West Park Community School has used the Children’s University pilot to accredit the Gifted and Talented transition programme. The school has worked with eight feeder schools to deliver a range of transition activities with Children’s University credits attached.
A wide range of activities has been offered including Music Composition, Drama, Problem Solving and Science. The Coordinator has adapted the existing activities offered to become Children’s University modules. Children from across the cluster of feeder schools have gained credits for their learning whilst learning more about their secondary school.
A more recent development has been the development of a module to run alongside the OCR Skills for Life programme which is delivered as part of Family Learning. Five students have gained Children’s University credits whilst working towards the OCR certificate. A further module has also been developed around an art activity,
‘Monoliths – Aspects of Self’ and delivered to Year 8 students.
